The Victor was first published
by DC Thomson in early 1961. Using characters from previous comics Braddock VC, Georgeous Gus and
Morgyn The Mighty. It became an instant hit. There was also original characters
like Johnny Drew (1961) The Smasher (1962), Solomon Stark (1964), Ulysess The Wanderer
(1966), Island Of No Return (1966), Tough At The Top (1971) and The Golden Gladiator
(1974). There were many Matt Braddock and Georgeous Gus stories through the years which
stood the test of time |
During its
publishing history Victor incorporated 6 other titles – Wizard (July 1978) , Hotspur
(31/1/1981), Scoop (10/10/1981), Buddy (13/8/1983), Champ (26/10/1985), Warlord
(4/10/1986). On the 13th April 1991, the Victor changed its approach a radical design
change In the hope to attract a younger generation with article on football and
skateboarding. This kept going for about 18 months.
On 21/11/92 the comic finally folded after 31 years and 1657 issues published. |
The Victor also run a seasonal edition called "The Summer Special" which was
first published 1967. This was a sort of mini annual packed with the usual favorites.
